Improve your product or service using the SCAMPER framework

Use the SCAMPER framework to help you improve your product or service.

The SCAMPER technique is a way I learned from The Innovators Toolkit to help ask the right questions to  make your existing product or service better.

For me frameworks help guide you through a process to get a more favorable result.

SCAMPER is an acronym that stands for,

Substitute

Combine

Adapt

Modify/mirror/distort

Put two other purpose

Eliminate

Rearrange/Reverse

Here are some questions you can ask for each of these steps.

Substitute

What can I substitute to make this better?

How can I substitute the place time materials or people?

What would be the impact of this?

Combine

What processes people products are components can be combined to add more value?

Where can I create synergies?

Adapt

What part of the product or service can be adapted or changed?

Modify/mirror/distort

What would happen if I modified the process in a certain way?

What if I exaggerated a feature or component more?

Put to other purposes

What other market could use this product or service?

Who else could use this on a slight variation of this?

Eliminate

What would happen if I removed this part or that part of it?

How else could I achieve the solution if I couldn’t do it this way?

Rearrange/Reverse

What if I did this in a different order?

The whole purpose of these questions is to help generate ideas for improving your product or service.

I love frameworks and acronym tools like this.
